FAQ about OpenVPN® on Mac

Do I need a VPN for Mac?

Regardless of which device you’re on, Windows, Mac, iOS, or Android phone or tablet, your online activities are visible to your ISP unless you use a VPN solution. When you establish an OpenVPN connection on Mac or use any other VPN Unlimited protocol, your ISP can’t read your data any more or peer into your online activities.

Is OpenVPN safe?

In short: Yes. Even the NSA (United States National Security Agency), which has sophisticated methods and a big budget, considers OpenVPN to be safe from espionage. Furthermore, OpenVPN® is neither owned nor operated by a major corporation because it is an open-source protocol.

Does OpenVPN work on Mac?

MacOS does not have a built-in OpenVPN protocol. As a result, you'll need to install a client app to communicate with Access Server. The app is required to capture the traffic you wish to send over the OpenVPN tunnel, encrypt it, send it to the server, and decode the return traffic.

Where can I find OpenVPN® configuration files for Mac?

You can get them by heading to your User Office at https://my.keepsolid.com/, as described in the first section of this guide: Generate OpenVPN® configuration files. There, you need to choose the desired server location and generate the relevant .ovpn file, which you can further use to configure OpenVPN® on Mac.

Why do I need TunnelBlick to set up OpenVPN® on macOS?

As long as macOS doesn’t feature the built-in OpenVPN® protocol, TunnelBlick is just the solution that helps to configure the connection and further manage it.
